Old Red Gums Outback and Old Red Gums Near Mudgee will feature in the 2015 greeting cards collection, which will be sold worldwide for the MFPA, an international association wholly owned and run by disabled artists to help them meet their financial needs.
Margaret has painted by mouth since contracting polio when she was just 13 years old and confined to a wheelchair.
She rejects the praise and the MFPA’s description of her as an “extraordinaire”.
“I’m not an extraordinaire,” she laughs.
“They have also called me an active student artist, and I am not that either. We are all working people who enjoy what we do. All of us paint because we enjoy it and anyone would do the same under the same circumstances.”
Life has been hard for Margaret in recent months, and painting has taken a back seat. She lost her sister Frances a month ago, and her 14-year-old dog, which she raised since a pup.
While saddened by the losses she is not appealing for sympathy, and hopes to resume painting at her usual level soon.
Margaret’s favourite subjects are landscapes, horses and flowers.
“Anything but portraits,” she said.
“I can’t get a handle on portraits.”
