Ninety-seven per cent of the 160 exhibitors stayed in local accommodation and 98 per cent said they bought items from local shops.

And, if the 100 per cent growth that HuntFest has seen in the first 12 months is anything to go by, these figures will only increase.

According to organisers, only 26 per cent of HuntFest attendees completed an exit survey.

Interestingly, 54 per cent of these were from the Eurobodalla and Bega Shires.

In other words, the sample showed that the majority of people attending the event were locals, proving there is community support.

Comments left by festival goers included that “we came to Narooma for the first time this year for HuntFest, great place and will be back for a holiday”.

Another: “Love the friendliness and what a great town. Never been this far south before but will be coming back soon.”

All exhibitors completed the survey and reported HuntFest was “well organised”, had “a great venue” and gave “good exposure”.

South Coast Hunters Club president Dan Field said publicly this week he would move HuntFest from the Eurobodalla Shire if council decides to consult the community on any future changes to its event licence.

The move could be considered an overreaction, or even a threat, however one can understand Mr Field’s frustration when his efforts are of direct benefit to the shire.

Greens councillor Gabi Harding is doing what she was elected to do, which is represent the community.

However the benefits of HuntFest cannot be disputed, regardless of whether you support its philosophy.

It will be interesting to see whether the motion is passed, and what impact it will have on HuntFest’s future in the Eurobodalla.

While appeasing a vocal portion of the community, losing HuntFest altogether would be detrimental to us all.
