The men wrapped up their third minor premiership in four seasons with three rounds remaining 

after being the benchmark team all season.

United scored the most goals for the season with 97, 25 more than Bodalla, and conceded five in 21 games, with the next best being Moruya Swans who let through 20. 

Clyde’s two losses, including a 1-nil defeat on Sunday, were at the hands of Moruya Swans, Clyde’s major semi-final opponent. 

Player and club committee member Matt O’Neill said it was the team’s familiarity and all-round talent which were vital to the minor premiership.

“We have pace and skill in positions across the park,” O’Neill said.

“Our defenders play well together and we have one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the competition.”

A goal for the team was to take back the minor premiership from the Swans.

“It’s great to win it again and hopefully we can make it to our fourth grand final,” O’Neill said.

He said the side would not look into the final-round loss to Moruya and believed Clyde could book a grand final appearance. 

“We had control for good periods of the match but we could not 

finish,” he said.

“Moruya are a good side and play the way we want to play.

“I think we can improve our accuracy in the finals as we create a lot of opportunities.”

Clyde’s all age ladies’ team had to overcome a late season surge from Moruya Swans to take out the minor premiership.

The women’s team secured the title with a comprehensive, last- round 5-nil win against Moruya at Gundary Oval on Sunday.

Clyde’s first-year coach Paul Dillon believed the team deserved to come away as minor premiers.

“After a hard-fought season with ups and down, they prevailed like the champion’s they are and I was very happy with their performance,” Dillon said.

“To come out on top after a 20-week season is great.”

Dillon said Moruya and Batemans Bay were the club’s biggest challenges throughout the season.

“They both got better as the year progressed,” Dillon said.

“Moruya were outstanding and really pushed us.”

Dillon said the ladies’ squad had gone through changes at the start of the season and attributed its success to the club’s player development.

“There were six or seven new faces in the starting line-up this season and it was great for us to have a lot of youth girls to come through the ranks,” he said.

On Sunday, the association’s semi-finals will be held at Gundary Oval.

Clyde United’s all age men tackle Moruya Swans and the ladies’ major semi-final will feature the same two clubs.

The men’s minor semi-final will be a clash between Bodalla and Broulee and the ladies’ will be between Batemans Bay and Narooma.
