A year-end budget review will be presented to councillors on Tuesday.
The review gives an indicative summary of the year’s financial results for each of council’s funds and the consolidated result.
The major contributors to the favourable surplus position were variations from additional capital grants and contributions of $3.6 million, cost savings of $2.3 million and salary and wage savings of $1.2 million.
Additional revenue of $1.6 million from waste fees, water sales, camp fees and caravan parks was also received, as was favourable investment revenue of $1.5 million from a Southern Phone dividend, cash deposits and an investment.
The major unfavourable conditions were due to the estimated book value of infrastructure assets disposed of -$5 million and Financial Assistance Grants not being prepaid in 2014-15, having an impact of $3.3 million.
