The Seahawks finished second and will face third-placed Ainslie in a qualifying final at Jamison Oval, Macquarie.
The winner will line-up against Molonglo for a chance at a grand final appearance and the loser will tackle the winner of Eastlake and Woden’s match.
Club president Col Wakelam was pleased the Seahawks senior side had made the finals for the first time in the Canberra competition.
“We are absolutely over the moon,” Wakelam said.
Wakelam said it was a combination of different factors and believe the side could reach a grand final.
“It’s been a combined effort of the coaching staff and the boys wanting to play football and we certainly believe we can get there.”
Before the season coach Mark Adams wanted to see improvement on the past season’s results.
“A lot of people probably did not expect us to improve this much,” Adams said.
“We’re aiming to go all the way but we’re further along than I thought we would be before starting.”
The Bay smothered Ainslie in its previous encounter at Hanging Rock on June 28, winning 11.6 (72) to 5.5 (35).
The Seahawks were ferocious and first to the ball in the round 13 clash but Adams expected a “different game”.
“They seemed like a fit side but we were able to run away with it in the end,” Adams said.
“Finals are different and we won’t be taking it lightly as there are a few things we will focus on and improve.”
Wet weather forced ground closures earlier in the week and the Seahawks were unable to book an indoor venue for training.
The team opted to meet together to talk about what was expected of the players in the finals.
“We talked about our game plans and structures and how it’s important everyone at training is doing the same things and the right things,” Adams said.
“We want to give ourselves every advantage we can get and recovery on Sunday morning after a game will help in the finals.”
The Seahawks will take to the field without Shaun Green, who kicked five goals in the last match against Ainslie, and Adams who both have shoulder injuries.
Adams said Green’s loss was a “big hole to fill” but he had no doubts about the player who will step in to his place.
“We will miss Green’s work rate and presence but it means someone else has the opportunity to step up,” he said.
