Open to non-professional photographers, the aim of the competition is to showcase and highlight the region.

Categories include primary, secondary and open, and college principal Stephen Babbage said entries so far had been “outstanding”.

“There has been a bit of a beach theme from the entries so far but I’m interested in any landscapes,” he said.

“There are a lot of different opportunities to take photos in the region, I’d love to see some rainforest, bushland or farming landscapes.”

Mr Babbage said there were four parts to the competition, the first of which was workshops with renowned landscape photographer Ken Duncan in July.

“The next step is the competition, it’s open to everyone and we’ve got external judges.

They are local photographers Andrew Carter from Mogo and Toby Whitelaw and Robert Hayson from Fletchers Photographics in Bega,” Mr Babbage said.

“We will then have a series of rolling galleries.”

Each finalist will have their entry printed and displayed in the four “rolling” exhibitions, held at Batemans Bay, Moruya, Narooma and Merimbula.

The grand opening will be held at Village Centre, Batemans Bay, on October 3.

The galleries will include an exhibition of Mr Duncan’s work and people can buy prints.

From the six finalists, first, second and third place will be chosen by a panel of judges, headed by Mr Duncan.

Several local businesses are on board as sponsors, supplying prizes including cash.

Mr Babbage said first prize in the open section was $2000 donated by Moruya’s Ultimate Campers.

“Harvey Norman at Tura Beach are sponsoring first place in the primary category and it’s $1000 worth of camera equipment,” Mr Babbage said.
