The last Annie ticket was sold on Saturday morning – only halfway through the season.
BTP committee member Jack Helmore said the moral of the story was “book early”.
“BTP maintains a waiting list at its ticketing office, Bargain Box Fabrics (4472 5984), so if you are desperate you can add your name to this list in the hope there may be returns,” he said.
“BTP has sold every seat for most of its productions both this year and last and is very sorry to have to turn away potential audience members.”
Generally speaking, tickets go on sale to the general public one month before preview night, although early bird subscribers and those buying tickets through fund-raising organisations have a little longer than this.
Even so, Mr Helmore said many people constantly called in to Bargain Box Fabrics just a little too late and walked away disappointed.
“So, please, please, please, for the future, come and get your tickets early,” he said.
Annie continues to delight audiences and its very happy cast and crew.
“At last Friday’s show several people left the theatre not just singing the songs but muttering ‘how delightful’ and ‘fantastic’ to one another,” Mr Helmore said.
The beginning of planning for BTP’s final production of the year, One Act Wonders, the annual meeting and Annie have meant there is no time to hold a play reading evening this month.
Readings will resume on September 17, the third Wednesday of the month, at 7pm at the Playhouse with Laura Annawyn Shamas’ stage adaptation of the Australian classic Picnic at Hanging Rock.
There will, of course, be the usual chocolate cake supper.
Any enquiries about play readings can be directed to Jenny Kohlhagen on 4472 1619.
