Previously, the lowest recorded temperature for Batemans Bay during August was in 2002 when the weather reached -1.6 degrees.
Although residents have been taking advantage of the unusual August sunshine and warm waters, the maximum temperature forecast for Batemans Bay and surrounds this week was 20 degrees.
Until Thursday, the Eurobodalla had mornings as low as -2 degrees.
A BoM spokesman said the cold weather would “stick around until next week”.
“There is a high pressure system over much of this (South Coast) part of Australia,” he said.
“Batemans Bay can expect to see sunny days with generally light winds.
“There will be cooler nights and mild days.”
He said the average temperature for Batemans Bay during August was 18 for the day and 4.5 for the night.
“On average Batemans Bay gets eight nights below 2 degrees a year and two nights below zero,” he said.
He said Moruya “doesn’t generally get really cold nights like Batemans Bay”.
“On average Moruya Heads has one night every two years below 2 degrees,” the spokesman said.
“There has never been a night recorded below zero for Moruya.”
Due to the cold snap, the 7.15am Regional Express flight out of Moruya Airport was delayed on Monday to 9.40am because the plane iced over in Merimbula overnight, creating a domino effect through to Moruya.
Even though this week was cold, the BoM spokesman said the forecast through to September was for above average temperatures throughout the days and nights.
