IT was interesting to hear Clr Pollock say “I think it’s a lousy piece of legislation and I think it’s blackmail – but it’s the only game in town. There is no option, there is no alternative”, just prior to him approving the Broulee Biodiversity Certification Strategy.

He and the mayor had been telling the community there was “no alternative” for some time. However this claim was false.
The truth is that the private developers could have simply ‘bio-banked’ part of their own land. This alternative would have saved the private developers and ratepayers millions of dollars.
If you follow the money, in council’s own plans, the vast majority of this Broulee bio-cert money (approximately $3.4 million) will be funnelled into council and OEH’s administration for paperwork and studies, with only a small percent to be spent on actual works.
Council’s executive also used the same “no alternative” excuse during the hated LEP process, which also proved to be false.
The community petition of 5103 signatures, calling for the scrapping of the LEP and bio-certification has now been completely ignored.
