Member for Bega, Andrew Constance announced more than $82,500 funding to upgrade the Moruya Showground and control pest and weed infestations across the Eurobodalla Shire.
The Eurobodalla District Show Society will receive $28,221 to improve facilities at the Moruya Showground as part of its improvement plan.
Jeff De Jager from the society committee hoped the new facilities would lead to “more and more event camping”.
“It would be lovely to be able to hold field days here, where power and water for different stalls would be an advantage,” Mr De Jager said.
He said the new facilities would all be installed by the next show and rodeo.
Rodeo committee president Andy Mehl said the funding was “fantastic”.
“We applied for the funding with a plan so it’s good to see it come through,” Mr Mehl said.
“The water taps and power boxes will basically be for all our camping grounds and horses.”
Mr Mehl said he had “the trades lined up” and would like to see the works completed by Christmas, when the next major event will be held.
“The funding will cover a substantial stage of the first camping area,” he said.
Mr Constance said the NSW Government had allocated over $5 million in funding for showground maintenance and weed and pest control across the State.
“Showgrounds are the social and economic focal point of many regional communities,” Mr Constance said.
“This funding will allow the showground trust to carry out improvements that will increase their potential to host more events and generate more income into the local economy.”
