Mr Fletcher appeared in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday via audiovisual link from the South Coast Correction Centre.
It was the first time the murder charge had been heard in court and Mr Fletcher has not yet entered a plea.
The Department of Public Prosecutions requested an adjournment, and a brief of evidence is due to be served by September 29. The court heard that further analysis of a post-mortem examination was required.
Mr Fletcher, 40, did not apply for bail.
The case was adjourned to Batemans Bay Local Court on October 27.
Police allege Mr Fletcher assaulted the victim and his 60-year-old flatmate in an Evans Street unit on the night of Wednesday, June 18.
Last month Batemans Bay Local Court heard there were at least four other people at the unit on the night of the incident and they were “drinking heavily”.
The victim was found dead the following day and Mr Fletcher was arrested on June 20.
