Macks Swiftly, who lines up on her home track at Moruya Monday, is by See You Yarraman out of Macks High Spirit.
Macks High Spirit was trained by Brett Jones but after three starts broke down as a maiden and was sent to the breeding barn. Macks Swiftly is her first foal.
Macks High Spirit is a daughter of Vas Rica, a mare trained by Jones mother Nancy who won 14 of 51 starts.
It was due to her breeding that Brett Jones took a punt with Macks High Spirit.
“We raced Macks High Spirit unsuccessfully. She was unsound and broke down,” Jones recalled. “Macks Swiftly though has been a winner and we’re hoping for more luck at home on Monday.”
Macks Swiftly lines up in the Moruya Seafoods Benchmark 50 Hcp (1435m).
The mare, on the small side according to Jones, has a record of three wins and six placing’s from 19 starts earning close to $40,000.
She is on trial at the 1400m for the first time but Jones holds no fears for the step up in distance.
“I think she’ll handle it easily,” he added.
“The way she races suggests she’ll handle it and I think she will eventually get a mile.
“She’s been hitting the line really well lately.”
Since returning from a 12 week break, Macks Swiftly has recorded three successive placing’s and a last start 0.8 length win in a 1250m Class 3 handicap at the Sapphire Coast on July 12.
“Everything’s good with her,” Jones said. “She’s working well and we’re hopeful on Monday.
“She’s a pretty straight forward mare. Her only problem at times is she can be a bit hard in the barriers and jack up.”
To offset the mare’s 59.5kg, Jones has booked 2.5kg claiming apprentice James Innes jnr for Macks Swiftly.
