I AM writing this letter in an attempt to do no more than take up the space you normally devote to Neville Hughes bi-weekly climate change spectacular. I thought for a minute, when he switched to attacking those evil lefties at the ABC that we were onto a winner, but no such luck.

To answer once and for all the basic question “Do human gas emissions raise air temperature?” Neville may wish to acquaint himself with a proven research technique pioneered by the Dutch. The Outside Variable Emissions Numerator System, or OVENS, sets out to establish weather human gas emissions raise the ambient temperature in a closed ecosystem, such as Earth.
What Neville may find appealing, is that this is very simple analogue experiment can be conducted at home with improvised tools. No computer modelling or knowledge of climate science is required.
First, Neville should enjoy a good meal. I can recommend a Thai green curry and a few glasses of Sav Blanc, though if he prefers something a little more in keeping with the baby boomer Liberal Party aesthetic, baked beans on toast and a good cup of tea will suffice. Next, Neville should find somewhere comfortable to conduct the experiment – beds are good. Finally, he should pull his doona up over his head – in recreation of a closed environment, and simulation of the finite boundaries of the Earth’s atmosphere. At the right time, I encourage him to invite a family member or friend to stick their head under the doona, to ensure his experiment is thoroughly peer reviewed.
I look forward to reading the results of Neville’s experiment on these pages soon.
