IN response to Bernard Verrall’s letter regarding catastrophic climate change, I must first congratulate him on advancing some argument in support of his position, rather than simply relying on the discredited claim that ‘97 per cent of scientists agree’, as most ‘climate change’ apologists do.

Bernard apprises us of four facts, upon the first three of which we can agree.
Unfortunately his fourth and most important ‘fact’ is not a fact at all There is no evidence that human CO2 emissions have had any impact on recent extreme weather events and much evidence, in the form of peer reviewed papers, that there has been no discernible trend in these events since the beginning of the 20th century.
But Bernard’s biggest mistake is to assert that it is up to sceptical scientists to demonstrate that human induced warming has not occurred. The onus is actually on the proponents of the CAGW theory to prove their hypothesis which, to date, they have not done.
The globe has not warmed for over 17 years, a fact acknowledged by the IPCC, even as they struggle to find an explanation for the missing heat.
