Neighbour Steve Hall worked to contain the fire with a garden hose through a side window before the Broulee Rural Fire Service arrived about 7pm.
It is believed the fire started in either the laundry or the kitchen.
The area was cordoned off due to the home containing asbestos and a decontamination shower was set up at the scene.
Mr Hall said the room where the fire began was gutted.
The home is used as a holiday home and the owners were not home at the time of the incident.
Four fire crews attended as well as well as Hazmat, police and Ambulance.
Essential Energy attended to inspect the power line.
More details as they come to hand.
