The event included representation from a range of emergency services, including police, NSW Fire and Rescue, the Rural Fire Service and the State Emergency Service.
Residents were able to climb aboard the Westpac Life Saver helicopter and NSW Fire and Rescue gave a range of demonstrations, including putting out a simulated house fire and its smoke house.
Sheba, the Fire and Rescue sniffer dog, stole the show with her demonstration in finding a fire accelerant.
Sheba attends helps the fire brigade identify why a particular fire started.
In the demonstration Sheba's handler Tim Garrett placed a tiny drop of 90 per cent evaporated petrol on Lachlan Ryan's shoe. Sheba then made her way through the crowd, found Lachlan, and sat at his feet. But it was not before she first detected another fire accelerant on the well-worn uniform of a Rural Fire Service volunteer.
Mr Garrett said Sheba was one of two sniffer dogs working around NSW and she had attended more than 600 fires in her nine-year career.
