Boars coach Matthew Ryan said it was good to beat fellow South Coast sides but he wasn’t putting much stock in to the wins.
“It feels good to get early season bragging rights I guess but I’m not sure how much water it holds,” Ryan said.
The Boars took good numbers down to Narooma for the pre-season tournament but failed to fire in the first game of the afternoon.
The Boars conceded three tries within eight minutes against Jinda-
byne and ran out of time trying to come back.
Ryan said it was a shame his side played Jindabyne first as the Boars played better towards the end of the day.
“The first eight minutes were our worst of the day,” Ryan said.
“It was good to know we could match it with the best of the Monaro sides after we played better in the second half.”
In their remaining three 20-minute games the Boars accounted for Milton, Bombala and rivals Broulee.
Ryan was pleased with the Boars performance after the first game against Jindabyne.
“We had a few new faces that we had to implement,” he said.
“We played with much better control in the other games and were able to set up our structures.”
Ryan said the results were good to see but believed the attitude and energy shown by the players was more important.
“I wanted to see a fair amount of enthusiasm from the players,” Ryan said.
“We also talked about playing positive and enjoying ourselves which was something I thought we did.”
The new season kicks off on May 3 and Batemans Bay has entered a second team, Bay Red, into the South Coast competition.
Ryan believed it would be a good opportunity for some new players or past players to take the field.
“If there are any interested players put your names down as it’s a good chance for people who can’t train or play every week,” he said.
