The 14-strong author line-up includes Debra Adelaide, Richard Glover, Susannah Fullerton, Clare Wright, Fiona McIntosh, Jeff Apter, Lucy Neave, Banafsheh Serov and more.
The line-up was announced at the festival’s official launch at the Coachhouse Marina Resort on Thursday night, which is where the two-day festival will be held.
Organisers promise the festival will feature something for everyone; readers, writers, poets and illustrators and those who just enjoy being entertained or discussing issues of interest.
It is set to include inspiring author talks, lively panel discussions, sensational readings, fun workshops, stalls and other book-related activities.
The festival’s events and program coordinator, Marion Rouboos-Bennett, said the authors were enthusiastic about the event.
“Authors love writers’ festivals; they enjoy meeting readers, enjoy talking about writing and are committed to promoting literature and reading,” she said.
“What’s really exciting is that literary lovers will want to gather to hear the wonderful local, interstate, Sydney, Canberra and regional authors at the Festival, many of whom have works published in Australia and overseas.
“We are expecting people to attend from Wollongong to the Southern Highlands, from Canberra to Merimbula - not to mention the many keen locals - to hear these superb authors share their experiences.”
The resort marquee will serve as the festival’s hub. Attendees can mingle with other readers, chat with the authors, buy books, enjoy lunch and refreshments or just relax during sessions.
“Not only do we have all of these terrific and talented authors speaking at the festival, we also have some other highlights including panel sessions on how to get published and the writing process,” Ms Roubos-Bennett said.
“Saturday’s sessions will conclude with a foodie event, and the festival finishes on a high note with witty and entertaining, and riotous, Richard Glover talking about his humorous books and laugh-aloud journalist columns.”
Mayor Lindsay Brown launched the festival on Thursday night.
He said arts culture was prominent in the community and he was looking forward to the event.
“I believe the festival will certainly provide an enjoyable cultural and literary experience for locals and visitors,” he said.
“I am excited that the Bay festival will bring social and economic benefits to the community and the region.”
The first Batemans Bay Writers Festival will be held June 7 and 8.
