Two adjoining sites, at 32 and 34 Princes Highway and 3, 5 and 7 Sharon Road, were sold to Bunnings last year in two separate sales.
Eurobodalla Shire Council received the second of two development applications for the new store last week.
“I thought it would be as big as the one at Ulladulla, but it looks like it will be as big as the one at Fyshwick,” Elders Real Estate Batemans Bay commercial sales agent Robert McBride said.
He says he believes that such a large store is a good sign for Batemans Bay.
“It shows that there is confidence in Batemans Bay, and the industrial area will expand and grow on the backbone of new housing developments in the area. There will be a lot of jobs going there.”
Bunnings’ chief operating officer Peter Davis confirmed Bunnings lodged the application for the new Batemans Bay Warehouse.
“Our application is in its early stages and we are looking forward to working closely with council throughout this process,” he said.
“If approved, the new store will replace the existing Batemans Bay store.”
Mr Davis said the store would bring new employment opportunities and “substantially improve” its product offering.
