Man arrested over alleged Batemans Bay abduction

Police on the State’s Far South Coast have this morning arrested a man following an investigation into the disappearance of a woman from Batemans Bay on Friday afternoon.

Police issued a missing person appeal yesterday morning (11 August) after a 41-year-old woman failed to collect her daughter from child care as arranged the previous afternoon.

Police discovered the woman’s car abandoned at Caseys Beach, south of Batemans Bay, yesterday morning, and a short time later the woman herself was found.

She was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital where she was checked before released.

An investigation was initiated into the alleged abduction of the woman.

Shortly before 11am today (12 August) a 43-year-old man was arrested on the Kings Highway at Nelligan by officers from the State Protection Support Unit (SPCU).

A replica handgun was seized during a search of the man’s 1994-model Holden Rodeo 4WD.

The man, from Batemans Bay, was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station.

Inquires are continuing.
