The Bay Post/Moruya Examiner has relaunched its website with a brand-new look.

Our website, www.batemansbaypost.com.au, has continued to grow over the past few years and, along with other Fairfax newspaper sites, it has been redesigned and improved to suit changing technologies.

Launched last week, the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner website is now better suited for mobile and tablet devices, and features higher quality photographs and multimedia.

It still contains the latest news, sport and opinion, but features these in different ways and provides extra content in other areas including health, lifestyle and entertainment.

“The new website has a whole new look and feel,” Fairfax NSW South online editor Chris Gordon said.

“But the changes aren’t simply superficial . . . the website is constructed differently and improves the ways we provide content and engage with our readers.”

Using a sleek design technique, the new website can be viewed from desktop computers to smaller mobile devices.

About 20 per cent of all visits to the News website are from mobile devices, and the new site has been constructed so it is much easier to view and navigate on mobile devices.

Advertisers and readers in general will also benefit from the new website, as it incorporates “lazy loading” for images and ads, meaning that they will only load as you scroll down the page.

Readers should also be aware at the changes to the online commenting system.

Now, readers will be able to follow what commentators have said across a range of topics and join in a broader conversation.

People can still share their views anonymously, but will have to register one email address per alias name.

The main concept behind all of the changes is engagement.

“We’ve always sought to engage our readers as much as possible online and the new website offers us greater flexibility in doing this,” Mr Gordon said.

“We already integrate our content across other platforms such as Twitter and Facebook to help readers become more involved with the paper, but we are increasing the ability to be involved with a new, robust comments system.”
