Cr Brown said last week’s meeting with landowners, the Batemans Bay Chamber of Commerce and Roads and Maritime Services included information from traffic studies of the northern part of the shire and the CBD.
Queensland’s Bitzios Consulting was engaged for the studies and representatives attended the meeting.
Cr Brown said council and Bitzios staff discussed “short and long-term planning undertaken with the two detailed traffic studies”.
“This included a strategic study for the northern part of the shire and a more specific study of the Batemans Bay CBD area,” he said.
He said the studies considered development, growth and catering for traffic increases to 2030.
“The planning work is all about making sure we get it right for both the current and future communities,” he said.
Cr Brown said the proposed lights were “one small part of the overall works recommended to service the traffic and pedestrian needs of Batemans Bay into the future”.
He said discussions would continue with businesses concerned about parking and trade.
Cr Brown said the current funding deadline to lock in an RMS offer for 50/50 funding for the lights remained June 30, but the “RMS has indicated that council has a good chance of having the funding transferred to next financial year”.
However an RMS spokesperson told the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner the RMS had “no deadline for the funding offer”.
