Award for two inspiring teachers

Congratulations to Laura Tyler and Danielle Phillips, who have each received the highly regarded National Excellence in Teaching Award for inspiring teaching from the Australian Scholarships Group.

Laura is a well-known local teacher and it is wonderful to see her exceptional dedication recognised. Danielle is in her very first year of teaching, so it is certainly a feather in her cap. It is a great thing when those who work so hard are acknowledged in such a significant way.

Julie Knight’s five-year-old niece, Lily Weissel, from Mossy Point, watched her older cousin at a swim competition on the weekend and decided she too would like to race.

She had only ever swum 12.5m. They told her she needed to swim to the end of the pool and back at swimming lessons if she wanted to race and, to the surprise of everyone, she did!

Way to go, Lily!

A heart attack hasn’t stopped Nev and his wife Kris Jackson making it all the way across to Western Australia. They have swum with a turtle, ridden a camel, visited the Horizontal Falls - and stayed for the wet season!

Cathy Lawarik says we can all be proud of the Batemans Bay Basketball Juniors. Whether they win or lose, even at finals time, they always show good sportsmanship. She’s also proud of her daughter, Nikki, who happily gave up uni holiday time to help coach some of the local representative basketball teams.
