Council expressed interest in the fourth round of the Regional Development Australia Fund to redevelop the airport and it was announced on Wednesday it could formally apply.
Community and corporate outcomes director Kerry Foster said it was great news.
“What that means now is that Eurobodalla Shire Council can go forward with a full application for funding,” she said.
“It means the project is competitive and on that basis the Federal Government will consider it for funding.”
Ms Foster said, if successful, the funding would help improve infrastructure at the site for potential future expansion.
“It means that we will have a viable airport and that’s without thinking about redevelopment.
“We’ll be able to take water and sewer to the airport and have road access.”
She said the amount they would apply for was confidential at this point, and council had two months to prepare the full application.
Council was also successful in the fund’s third round of expressions of interest for its South Coast solar project.
Full applications close for this round next month while council has until April 11
to complete the application for funding to redevelop Moruya airport.
