WHEN a combined Culcairn church group side last came to Batemans Bay a few years ago, the Seahawks were put to the sword by around 10 goals.

However, with the sides set to meet again at Hanging Rock Oval tomorrow, both sides have predicted a very different result.
“You always go into a game of footy hoping for a win but our side probably won’t be as strong as last time,” Culcairn player Jacob Muthsam said.
“I also reckon the Bay will have a slightly stronger side but I’d like to think we’ll have a win.
“I’d say fitness might be our biggest battle. About half of us are pretty fit and then myself and a few others aren’t fit at all. Hopefully we’ve got a good lead at three-quarter time because otherwise I think they might run over the top of us.
“We’re just a bunch of mates that either used to or are currently going to a church in Culcairn and we play against Batemans Bay every couple of years because I used to play up in the Bay.”
Seahawks co-coach Jamie Kemp didn’t have fond memories of the result when the teams last played each other but was as keen as ever to see his side in action tomorrow.
“Last time we played them they rolled us so we’re looking forward to round two,” he said.
“They beat us by about 10 goals three years ago but we had a pretty ordinary side and we only had a handful of senior guys then and the rest were under 17s.
“But we should have around 14 senior guys this weekend so it should be a bit tighter this time around.”
Kemp also said that the match would provide an ideal opportunity to test out some of the Bay club’s younger players against top- quality opposition.
Muthsam said spectators should keep an eye out for midfielder Chris Willis, full forward Andrew Terlich, on-baller Nathaniel Stroh and veteran forward James Male from the Culcairn squad.
A vast majority of the Culcairn squad will travel up today before a light training run at Hanging Rock this afternoon.
The match will get underway at the same venue from 4pm tomorrow.
“We’re having a later start in an attempt to beat the heat,” Kemp said.
