Well, Tuross Head and Bay Tigers Black have defied the odds twice this season and so head into tomorrow’s blockbuster at Kyla Oval with the favouritism shared.
They may have finished square on two separate occasions this season already, but the history books will say that the Tigers won the latter of the two tied matches – the Bay side was crowned Twenty20 champions after a controversial bowl-off in the grand final of the shortened format last month.
Tuross Head player-coach Boyd Brennan said revenge would be sweet should it come his side’s way tomorrow, but that raising money for the McGrath Foundation through Pink Stumps Day was just as important.
“We’ve got the kids up first with Southern Eurobodalla versus Central Eurobodalla, and then we’ve got raffles and a barbecue after their game,” Brennan said.
“And then we’ve got the big game in the seniors and hopefully we can raise a bit of money for the McGrath Foundation along the way.”
“We’ll be hoping to raise around the $600 mark this weekend.
“I think it’s important because it looks after the women that support us cricketers.
“We’d also like to thank Tuross Head Surgery, which has made a major donation towards the cause.”
Young pace bowlers Lewis McMahon and Rhys Voysey have been two of the standouts for Tuross Head in recent weeks.
However, with university starting this week, there have been question marks over their availability for the rest of the season.
Brennan remained hopeful that the young duo would be able to continue playing and said if they were to be absent, it would be a major blow for Tuross Head’s finals push.
“We’re looking very good, we’re hoping to get our two university players back this weekend but you never know,” he said.
“It will make things more difficult for us if those two don’t return for the finals.”
Meanwhile, Bay Tigers opener Gavin Ladmore was pumped up for the match, especially so as Tuross Head now has several former Cavaliers within its ranks.
“It’s always nice beating the ‘Turo-liers’,” he said.
