“The council can confirm that it has held discussions with ClubCatalina about the future of the Batemans Bay bowling club, however the nature of these discussions has been confidential,” a council spokesperson said.
Council said the land was zoned RE2 Private Recreation under the 2012 Eurobodalla Local Environmental Plan but refused to answer other questions about the site.
The spokesperson would not comment on whether the council had discussed acquiring the site as a tourist/community centre or made an offer regarding it.
The embattled bowling club amalgamated with ClubCatalina in 2009/10 but management has announced the venue will cease to trade on or before June 30, sparking disappointment and anger among bowlers.
Last month a key player in the amalgamation, bowls president Pat Bill, resigned in “frustration and utter disappointment”, citing “moral and ethical” concerns.
