About 1pm on Wednesday 30 January 2013 a 46-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were walking along a beach at Lake Tabourie.
As they attempted to cross a small channel between the beach and Tabourie Lake Island the couple were swamped by large waves and fell into the water.
A man who was also walking on the beach with his wife entered the water and was able to rescue the woman and bring her to the beach.
Sadly the man could not be located for twenty minutes and was eventually found 300 metres south from where he was last seen.
Although attempts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful another witness called triple zero.
Upon the arrival of emergency services the woman was conveyed to Milton Hospital and treated for shock while police from Shoalhaven Local Area Command commenced inquiries into the man’s death.
A full report outlining all details surrounding the incident will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
