The recommendation that was presented – “That Council determine an indicative total remuneration package for advertising purposes for the recruitment of a new General Manager to be $260,000 to $280,000 per annum” - met with opposition from the ERA-elected councillors, the result being a 4-4 vote.
The mayor used his casting vote to support the recommendation.
Now the ERA councillors are up in arms about the outcome.
Clearly they don’t understand the workings of council because, if they did, they would have lodged a rescission motion, signed by three of them, in the required time.
That would have stalled the process and given them time to do some accurate research for when the matter was re-presented at a future meeting.
By not doing so indicates to me they were playing for the attention of the media.
That’s real “Positive Change”, isn’t it?
