Every Saturday night until January 26, the bus will pick up at 1.30am outside the Batemans Bay Court House and will travel south as far as Broulee.
Queanbeyan bus company Downtown Charters has picked up the slack after a Batemans Bay business pulled out following an assault on a security guard last New Year’s Eve.
The service has been funded by the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) but in the past, it was run by Eurobodalla Shire Council.
However this year the service has changed hands and is now being operated by the RMS. It is unclear why this change was made.
A RMS spokeswoman said: “RMS is managing the Batemans Bay service this year under arrangement with the council”.
It is also unclear how much the services costs to run.
“The RMS contribution varies in each area dependent on the contribution from supporting pubs and clubs,” she said.
The spokeswoman said a security guard from TTM Security would be present on the Night Bus to ensure the safety of passengers.
“The night buses are there to reduce drink driving and drink walking,” the spokeswoman said.
