Several homes and cars were broken into on the same night and police are urging people to keep their homes and cars locked, as many of them were through unlocked doors.
After 2am on Christmas Eve, a resident was standing in their house in Ocean Road in Batehaven when they saw a man trying to remove the flyscreen on their laundry window.
The resident confronted the intruder, and the man ran off.
It is believed the man also tried to get inside through the flyscreen of the front bedroom window.
A thief also broke into a house in Gibson Place in Batehaven between 10pm on Sunday and 11.25am on Monday and stole a phone and wallet.
Police said the thief entered through the unlocked front door.
A house was also unlocked in Beach Road in Batehaven when an offender entered and stole a mobile phone and wallet.
The resident went to bed at about 11.30pm on Sunday and woke up at 9am on December 24 to find the items missing from the lounge room.
Meanwhile a car parked outside an accommodation house in Broulee was broken into on Christmas Eve. Between 5pm on Christmas Eve and 7.30am on Christmas Day a GPS was stolen from a car parked on the property. It is believed the car was unlocked.
A mobile phone and a wallet were stolen from an unlocked car parked in Tallawang Ave in Malua Bay between 9pm on Sunday and 3am on Christmas Eve.
Batemans Bay Police Sergeant Dave Silversides urged people to keep valuables in cars and homes out of sight and to lock their cars and homes.
He also urged holidaymakers staying at caravan parks to keep possessions secured and locked away, and not left outside.
“Be mindful and if you see anything suspicious, contact the local police (4472 0099) or Crime Stoppers (1800 333 000),” he said.
