Garcia just misses out on Australian Open berth

BATEMANS Bay teenage golf star Zinyo Garcia narrowly missed out on a dream Australian Open spot on Monday during a qualifying tournament at the New Brighton Golf Club in Sydney.

Garcia, 16, shot a four-over par round of 75 to miss the qualification cut.

“Unfortunately I didn’t get in,” he told the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner yesterday via text message.

“I didn’t play too well but (it) was a good experience.”

Former Tuross Head man Brendan Jones will now carry the Eurobodalla’s hopes at the prestigious event, which tees off at The Lakes Golf Club in Sydney tomorrow morning.
