The Wotif.com Battle of the Beaches competition saw the South Coast, including Batemans Bay and Moruya, go head-to-head against Eastern Victoria, Thailand, the Sunshine Coast and Sydney before it met the Gold Coast in the final.

It seems beaches between Wollongong and Eden outmatched the other destinations, as the area attracted the most bookings within the competition period.

The contest ran throughout November when the popular accommodation website asked people to book areas across the world.

Other areas in the competition included the Whitsundays, Sunshine Coast, northern NSW and Melbourne, and overseas destinations including Thailand, Pacific Islands, the Mediterranean and USA. 

Those with the most visits each day progressed through each round.

Wotif.com public relations manager Rhiannan Grant said the South Coast had a right to brag.

“The NSW South Coast pipped heavyweights Thailand, the Sunshine Coast, Sydney and the Gold Coast on its way to the top spot,” she said.

“To be considered in the same league as such world famous beaches is an honour in itself, but to come out on top definitely justifies bragging rights.”

The Bay Post/Moruya Examiner caught up with Eurobodalla beachgoers to find out what their favourite South Coast beach was.

Chris and Andrea Wood were visiting the Euro-bodalla over the weekend and said McKenzies Beach and Broulee were their favourites.

Mr Wood said Broulee was his favourite because “it’s good for kids, it’s flat and there’s good surf”, while McKenzies was always sheltered.
