The Lavazza coffee truck was travelling along Clyde and Orient Street when it lost control, slammed through a sign, knocked over a bin and ran into a thick pole just outside the GIO Insurance office.
It is believed the 36-year-old driver, from Narooma, had a seizure.
It was feared the building was unstable and GIO, along with neighbouring shops BB Newsagency and Black Pepper, were evacuated.
Fortunately no pedestrians were in the truck’s path, but one man managed to dive out of the way and slightly scraped his arm.
Police, Ambulance, Batemans Bay Fire and Rescue and SES were called to the scene.
The driver escaped the accident uninjured but was treated by paramedics and was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital for observation.
Aussie Café and Grill staff member Emma was standing in the café when she saw the accident unfold.
“I saw it and heard it and came out and the guy was having a fit,” she said.
“It was loud.”
Adam Keyte, from BB Newsagency, said he was serving a customer when the truck hit the building.
“My boss said 'look' and I turned around. It was coming up on the footpath.
“I thought ‘what the hell’. I was in the middle of serving someone.
“I rang 000 like anyone else would.”
Police interviewed several witnesses while Fire and Rescue crew turned off electricity to the shops.
Essential Energy were called to disconnect electricity in the roof above the walkway, where the truck had become wedged.
SES used poles to stabilise the roof while the truck was carefully towed out by 11.30am.
