Shops evacuated after truck crash

Shops in a Batemans Bay shopping centre have been evacuated after a truck crash this morning. The delivery truck smashed into a pole at the front of a shop in Orient Street at about 9am.

The accident happened when the Lavazza coffee truck was travelling along Clyde St and Orient St.

It appears the driver lost control and crossed the street, with his truck hitting a street sign and bin before smashing into a pole outside the GIO office.

The middle-aged man was taken to hospital, conscious but in pain. It is believed he may have had a seizure.

Shops in the centre have been told to evacuate until the premises are declared safe.
