The accident happened when the Lavazza coffee truck was travelling along Clyde St and Orient St.
It appears the driver lost control and crossed the street, with his truck hitting a street sign and bin before smashing into a pole outside the GIO office.
The middle-aged man was taken to hospital, conscious but in pain. It is believed he may have had a seizure.
Shops in the centre have been told to evacuate until the premises are declared safe.
