Hello Newman? Trouble Eagle's time-trial shocker

West Coast forward Murray Newman has fitness woes to worry about as well as an impending court date - after reportedly being soundly beaten by coach John Worsfold in a time trial on Monday morning.

The AFL website reported Newman, who the Eagles have confirmed as not carrying an injury, clocked times of 8 minutes and 13 seconds and 9 minutes and 36 seconds for a pair of two-kilometre time trials.

Newman, who turned 19 on Sunday, not only finished well behind winners Chris Masten (6:05) and Bradd Dalziell (6:48) but he was beaten home by his 44-year-old coach John Worsfold.

Newman will face court on November 30 after allegedly being involved in an incident in Northbridge that left another 18-year-old man requiring surgery.

Newman has been charged with causing grievious bodily harm.

The Eagles said in a statement on Friday that they were "bitterly disappointed" that Newman had found himself in such a situation but would make no further comment until legal process had been carried out.

Newman, recruited from Swan Districts, played four games last season in his first year in the AFL.

The Eagles are able to delist players up until the AFL's final list lodgment on November 29.
