Far South Coast Local Area Commander Superintendent Sean Gersbach said police would be focusing on Broulee and Tuross Head following concerns raised by the local community in previous years.
To assist Far South Coast police to improve safety around these areas, Eurobodalla Shire Council will be putting controls in place in Broulee and Mossy Point for New Year’s Eve celebrations.
The Surf Club carpark gate at Broulee will be locked early tomorrow with access to the beach permitted for pedestrians only via the newly constructed footpath. The gate will reopen early on New Year’s Day.
Areas around Heath and Little Streets will have restricted parking as will the area along Coronation Drive, opposite Baker Street on the beachfront.
The Mossy Point headland will be blocked off after lunch on New Year’s Eve and will reopen early on New Year’s Day.
Supt Gersbach said extra police would be patrolling these areas again this year, and strictly enforcing the alcohol-free zones established.
“We want everyone to enjoy New Year’s Eve, but we won’t tolerate any dangerous, criminal or anti-social behaviour,” he said.
“Alcohol prohibited areas in the Broulee area include beaches and roads from South Broulee Beach to the Mossy Point boat ramp. Possession of alcohol in these areas may result in fines of up to $110.”
Bayview Hotel will have three DJs pumping music through the venue from 8pm to 1.30am with pre-purchase tickets at $10 per person and no admittance after 10pm.
Batemans Bay Soldiers Club will have the Big Night Out Band in the auditorium with tickets at $20 each available at the door, along with Rockin All Over in the lounge for free.
The Catalina Country Club will have the Ricky Lynch Band playing from 7.30pm.
Mariners Waterfront Hotel will have a Sporting Hero party for $50 per person, which includes food, DJ, lightshow and Sandman Panelvan on the Lawn.
Moruya Waterfront will have a DJ, while the Adelaide Hotel will have no entertainment downstairs, but its restaurant will be open.
Far South Coast Licensing Coordinator Sergeant Robert Moore said people risk being fined up to $550 or leave immediately if they are asked to leave a venue by staff or the police due to their intoxication level or behaviour.
