THE Batemans Bay Tigers, spearheaded by man of the match Aaron Brierley, destroyed the hopes of Moruya regaining the McClelland Family Charity Shield for another year with a 50-16 win at Mackay Park on Friday night.

Moruya started the game strongly when their best players, Rolly Halligan and Greg Badullovich, combined to split the Bay up the middle on a 40 metre run.
The game was played at a furious pace for the first 20 minutes before the Bay scored via winger Grant Rootsey, who accepted a miracle pass from Tuki Jackson.
A 10-0 lead for the Bay was shortened to 10-6 when the Sharks crossed under the post. Moruya were unlucky not to get another couple of four-pointers after camping on the Bay's line only to be repulsed by some solid goal line defence. The halftime score of 26-10 looked comfortable for the Bay but the Sharks hit back with a try straight after the break to make it 26-16 and keep their hopes alive.
Five-eighth Aaron Brierley stamped his dominance as he powered his way through the Sharks' defence time after time. He was ably supported out wide by centre Tuki Jackson.
Moruya props Halligan and Darren Irwin matched the Tigers forwards for most of the game and diminutive lock Tony Jay put a few bruises on some of the inexperienced Bay pack. Moruya fullback Badullovich was very polished at the back.
Fitness and class won the day in the finish as the Bay, with the benefit of several hard games already under their belt, finished over the top of their rivals. Big games were played by Scott Buck, Kolo Fifita, Nathan Wood, James Evans, James Manton and Grant Rootsey. They were backed up by solid performances from forwards Jarrod Semu, Kayne Nathan, Matt Schubert and Scott Ladmore. Points on the day went to Aaron Brierley, who handed out a little lesson to his opposition five-eighth and was clearly man of the match, closely followed by the Sharks' Rolly Halligan, who had a blinder.
In the early under 18s fixture, the Bay ran out winners 28-16 in an entertaining match.
The Tigers are at home to the powerful Kiama Knights this Saturday, with the games starting at 3pm, 4.30pm and 6pm.
The Knights are touted as one of the sides to beat this year, and the contest should be fierce.
