Families can visit the Herarde Street fire station between 10am and 2pm on Saturday to meet their local firefighters, find out about the work they do and learn more about how anyone can protect themselves from fire.
Both parents and children will have the chance to climb onto fire engines, tour the station and check out the equipment.
From May 1, all buildings in NSW where people sleep will be required to have smoke alarms. The open day is an opportunity to find out how the law applies to homes.
There will also be a free sausage sizzle, open to everyone.
