Moruya boy and new St George Illawarra prop Michael Weyman made an impressive debut for his new club in their 17-16 golden-point loss to the Melbourne Storm in Melbourne on Friday night.

Weyman, aka Horse, made 19 hit-ups and proved a handful for the defence every time he handled the ball.
Storm star Greg Inglis spoilt Weyman’s party with his extra-time field goal, but Weyman is happy with his time in the red and white so far.
“It was the change I needed, and I have settled in well up here,” he said.
“This is a really good club. It was hard for me to leave Canberra, because they have been great to me over the years, but it is going good here.”
Weyman moved to Wollongong last October, and has found it to his liking.
“I love it,” he said.
“It’s laid back, a bit like Canberra, but there are beaches as well, so you get the best of both worlds.”
Weyman and his team mates were put through three days of hell at a training camp near Nowra by new coach Wayne Bennett, an experience he is now grateful for, if not at the time.
“It was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” he said.
“All in all, it opened my eyes, and I discovered something in me I never thought I had there before.”
Weyman has played for excellent coaches before, but he’s understandably happy to be playing under a coach of Bennett’s standing.
“It’s been really good; he’s a good fella and you learn a lot off him,” he said.
Weyman put his 114kg to good use in charging down an attempted field goal by Melbourne half back Cooper Cronk, but didn’t get the chance to stop Inglis slotting the winner.
“I was pretty happy with our first game,” he said.
“The result was not what we wanted, but that’s footy, and we’ll get ready for the Titans this weekend.”
Weyman is again looking forward to locking horns with Gold Coast prop Luke Bailey.
“It should be good,” he said.
“He’s one of the best props in the game, so playing against him is a good way to gauge where you are at.”
