The Batemans Bay Surf Life Saving club women’s crew, Darren’s Divas, exceeded even their own expectations when they scored a second place race finish at round one of the Ocean Thunder series at Dee Why on Saturday.

“We entered the Ocean Thunder Series for the experience,” crew spokesperson Barb Van Luin said. “We went in thinking that we would just have a go and had no expectations on ourselves as we were going up against 12 of the best crews in Australia.”
Suffice to say they thought such a good result would be out of their reach.
“We surprised ourselves and we cannot wipe the smiles off our faces,” Van Luin said.
The racing in Ocean Thunder is a very different what the Divas are used to and the time between each race is half of that in a normal boat series.
“Fatigue set in on us very quickly, but we still gave it all we had and were very proud of
ourselves. It was a
great experience and look forward to the next race of the series
on December 19. Hopefully we can achieve another second.”
