The 2011 rodeo will feature 14 thrilling events including bronco riding, barrel racing, calf rope and tie, steer wrestling, rodeo clowns and spectacular bull rides under lights.
Rodeo Association of Moruya president Andy Mehl said the New Year’s day rodeo event was all about providing fun and entertainment for spectators.
“It’s all about people riding the stock and exciting the crowd and getting them on their feet,” he said.
With food stalls, a bar, a side show alley and rides available at the event, Mehl said the rodeo was an excellent way to spend New Year’s day.
“It’s a great family day out and everyone gets good entertainment and good value for money,” he said.
“We’re expecting a really good crowd and there’s always a great atmosphere at the rodeo, especially at night time when the lights come on.”
Mehl said that the bull rides and steer wrestling were generally the most entertaining events and that specatators should keep their eyes peeled to see some Moruya’s own stock in action
“Some of the local bulls travel all year round on the Southern Zone circuit,” he said.
“Rusty and Wolf Creek are two local bucking bulls that are definitely worth watching out for.”
Youngster James Hamilton will be the only local rider in action.
Mehl said the New Year’s day rodeo is becoming increasingly popular with Eurobodalla Shire residents and tourists every year.
“It’s becoming bigger and better every year and it gives visitors to the area the opportunity enjoy the unique experience of attending a genuine country rodeo.”
Gates open at 1pm with the rodeo starting at 4pm and finishing at 10pm. Following the conclusion of the rodeo a DJ will take over until midnight.
Entry is $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years of age.
