The Guinness Book of Records’ stringent requirements stipulate that the attempt be certified by three judges, including a professional belly dancer, two time-keepers and a continuous video recording.
“The judges certified, the time-keepers kept time but the video recorder woosed out and gave up before the record was reached,” a surprisingly serene Melanie said.
Melanie, from Mossy Point, tripled the previous best time for a continuous shimmy.
Despite the setback, Melanie said she was very pleased that the record attempt had attracted such a good crowd to Art on the Path.
She expressed her thanks to all those who had sponsored the attempt (with all funds going to the Broulee shared pathway project).
“To keep faith with my supporters and to have the record officially recognised, I’m going to repeat the performance at a local event sometime soon and this time I’ll make sure that the video recorder has had the same amount of preparation as me,” she said.
