Far South Coast Group president Noelene McNeish, along with Batemans Bay CWA representatives Jackie Mudge and Maureen Kinross, will attend the 87th Annual Conference of the state CWA in Broken Hill, from May 4 to 7, as delegates.
Ms McNeish said all motions on the conference agenda had been discussed and voted on by local members.
She said local members wanted delegates to vote yes on a range of motions, including substantial financial incentives to be offered to health professionals to work in rural and remote communities, rights for grandparents and a reduction of alcohol advertising.
However, Ms McNeish said members have left open the decision on the euthanasia debate.
The CWA proposes to request the NSW Government to legalise euthanasia.
“They (local members) were sort of divided,” Ms McNeish said.
“I personally think it should be legalised to give people the option.”
Ms Mudge agreed with Ms McNeish.
“It should be a case by case situation,” Ms Mudge said.
She said one view to look at would be people who are aged over 70 who are receiving treatment for cancer and would prefer not to, to give their spots in the health system up for those that are younger and have a better chance of recovery.
