$17m resort project moves closer

27 Nov, 2009 09:41 AM
There is a chance work will start on the $17 million Summerfield retirement resort project sooner than expected.

The Moruya project will see 119 self-contained dwellings built on 15 acres on the corner of Albert Street and Turnbulls Lane, together with facilities.

Habitat Property Group’s managing director Peter Wallace earlier this year said the developers were looking to commence the Summerfield project early in 2011. “However,” he said this week, “this could be brought forward if the Eurobodalla property market keeps gathering momentum.

“Over the past three months our project team has been working with Eurobodalla Shire Council staff to determine the sewer design together with other issues associated with the development application conditions.

“At present we are also preparing the expression of interest campaign for the South Coast Wellness Centre that is incorporated into the Summerfield project.

“We plan to lease or sell the wellness centre with a freehold title on a turnkey basis.”

Mr Wallace said the centre would be well suited to medical professionals and would include:

  • Rooms and central reception area for doctors and allied health professionals.

  • An indoor hydrotherapy/exercise pool.

  • A fully equipped rehabilitation area and gymnasium.

“It is also our intention to run an expression of interest campaign for the commercial kitchen and preparation area incorporated into the clubhouse,” Mr Wallace said.

“We envisage a private or not-for-profit group leasing the specifically designed space for the preparation of meals to residents of Summerhill, together with the delivery of fresh or frozen meals to the residents of the Eurobodalla and other regions. Special calorie controlled meals can be prepared for those people referred by the wellness centre for weight loss or specific dietary needs.

“Any rental income received from the commercial kitchen will be paid to the Summerhill residents’ committee to help minimise outgoings on the clubhouse facility.

“With Priors Buses servicing Summerhill on their standard route (subject to Traffic Committee approval), this should facilitate widespread use of the facilities and the services situated within the Summerhill development.”
